**IMPORTANT UPDATE**

The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario has today given the go ahead for dentists in Ontario to provide all treatments on patients who screen negative for any COVID-19 symptoms - cleanings with polishing, fillings, examinations etc can all be done safely.

The screening can be found lower down on this home page and should be filled out the day before the appointment. Please alert us by text or phone (416-223-1360) if "yes" was answered to any screening questions.

Dentistry on Sheppard has instituted many safety precautions and protocols to protect patients and staff which go beyond those required by the regulatory bodies (medical grade air filtration systems etc). Even though things will not be exactly the same as previous appointments, you can count on friendly, high quality dental care from our team.

Thank you for your patience during this tumultuous time.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Sincerely,
Dr Mark Cloth.

May 29, 2020

Update: Dentistry on sheppard is seeing emergency and essential care patients right now however the provincial government is allowing the gradual resumption of all dental services. This means dentists can begin to see more types of treatment. However we are currently awaiting revised guidelines from our regulator, so that we can be ready to provide all types of care. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons has said these guidelines should be available June 1. It will not be back to business as before but it is good news.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Sincerely,
Dr Mark Cloth.

May 25, 2020

Dear Patients:

Hello! We are excited to inform everyone that on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020, we are opening for emergency and urgent care. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons has guidelines on allowable procedures at this point - only "essential" care is permitted. The most common treatments allowed currently include (but are not limited to) treating pain, significant sensitivity, fractured teeth, and deep decay. Unfortunately, no routine cleanings or examinations can be done at this time. Please call Mary Anne who is now in the office full time, for any questions or an appointment at (416) 223-1360.

For the past eleven weeks, Dentistry on Sheppard has been closed by provincial order to help limit the spread of COVID-19. It feels like the dawn of a new day and we are excited to see everyone face-to-face. However, things will not be the same as past visits (at least not initially). There will be several safety changes implemented into the office structure, office routine and office flow to keep patients and staff healthy.

A pre-appointment screening form will need to be filled out the day before by phone or text. Once you arrive at the office on the day of the appointment, please call or text us and we will text you back when to proceed to the office. Just outside of the office entrance there will be someone to greet you, take your temperature with a touchless thermometer, again ask you the same screening questions, ask you to use alcohol-based hand sanitizer and give you a mask (if you haven't brought one) before escorting you directly into the operatory. Appointments will be scheduled to allow for social distancing. We are trying to minimize using the waiting room at this point, and encourage only the patient to come to the office (except if a minor).

The office is now equipped with six different medical grade HEPA air filtration units, minor office modifications (including plexi-glass screen at reception, waiting room chairs spread out at 6 feet, doors on most operatories (to control air flow) and more personal protective gear on staff. Our holistic mercury filling removal protocol helps control aerosol spread by utilizing the same large vacuum with high grade filters used to suck up mercury fumes. Infection control has always been a top priority in our practice and we are implementing even more stringent measures both in the operatory and in common areas (such as frequently disinfecting high touch surfaces, removing magazines, toys, water cooler etc).

Our team at Dentistry on Sheppard has done everything we can think of to make you safe, our staff safe, yet continue to produce high quality dentistry.

Mary Anne and Dr. Cloth are available to answer any questions by text (416-725-5794 or telephone (416) 223-1360. Please understand due to the limited treatements being done right now our hours will be modified. The passionate team at Dentistry on Sheppard are happy we can continue our mission to bring you high quality holistic based, total body dental health care in a friendly environment. We hope to see you all real soon

Sincerely,
Dr. Mark Cloth

All patients, please download, print and fill out this Patient Screening Form the day before your appointment and bring with you to the appointment.

What to Eat (and Not to Eat) For Your Oral Health

It is well documented that food and drink are not passive actors in the diseases attacking our health. We choose how we treat our body with the foods we eat. Food is a powerful tool to transform one's health. The biggest health threats today are non-communicable diseases -cancer, heart disease, stroke etc. and food is a powerful prevention tool. Oral health cannot be looked upon as disconnected from one's overall health so food offers a powerful tool to help combat oral diseases.

The study, published Tuesday in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, evaluated nearly 300 sets of mothers and children in Mexico and tested the children twice for cognitive development over the course of 12 years.
